HACE - It's time to look at how you're spending your time during your distance learning! Some of you are managing your time well and completing all assignments to the best of your ability.
Some of you, however, have been enjoying your sleep and video games a bit too much....BUSTED!
Don't worry, we're here to help get you back on track!
Click on the link HERE to see your HACE assignment. This will be due Wednesday so you will have two days to work on it. We also expect you to have a conversation with your parents/guardian about your commitment to this plan.
Once you've done this, have your parent/guardian sign your schedule and share it to your teacher on the Google drive.
Name it schedule_your name and hand it in by Wednesday.
Literacy - The Great Pacific Garbage Patch
Last week you learned about how humans can make some changes to make the Earth a healthier place to live. When COVID-19 came, things became quiet, pollution has almost disappeared and we are seeing improvements. However, we are now wondering how can we make these improvements last beyond today?
Have you ever heard of the Great Pacific Garbage patch? When you throw your garbage away where does it go? What about the plastic you see along the shore line? Where did it come from?

Your task:
Think about your connections to this new information. Connections can be to self, to other texts and to the world. Using the information from last week (videos, poems and reading) and your own personal experiences, complete a minimum of 3 connections for each section to this new information about plastics and wasteful behaviour. You will have a minimum of 9 connections in total.

Numeracy - Probability
Theoretical Probability - what we expect to happen. If we flip a coin 10 times we expect the coin to land heads 5 times and tails 5 times. The Theoretical Probability of the coin landing heads is 5/10 or 50%.
Experimental Probability - what actually happens. I flipped a coin 10 times and the coin landed on heads 3 times and tails 7 times. The Experimental Probability of the coin landing heads is 3/10 or 30%.
Numeracy Task #1 - Coin Flipping
MUST DO:
a) What is the experimental probability of flipping heads based on your experiment?
b) What is the experimental probability of flipping tails based on your experiment?
c) Chiran flipped a coin three times, and it turned up heads after each flip. He predicts that on the fourth flip, the coin will turn up heads again. Fiona predicts that on the fourth flip the coin will turn up tails. Do you agree with one of them? Why or why not?
CAN DO:
Create a new tally chart for Heads and Tails. This time flip the coin 50 times and record your results using tallies in the chart created.
- Compare your results with the first tally chart.
- Is your experimental probability different?
- Why do you think it changed or didn’t change

DPA - If possible, get outside for some fresh air! Go for a jog or a stroll around your block while maintaining social distancing. Try a "distant sport" to play with a family member eg. badminton or throw a football back and forth. DPA should be 60 minutes and can be split up into smaller portions of time eg. 2 breaks for 30 minutes each. If you can't get outside, do DPA inside instead. See the DPA links on the side of this post.
FRIDAY CELEBRATIONS
This Friday we would like to celebrate CREATIONS AND EXPERIENCES. Since starting our distant learning, if you have created something you would like to share on our blog, please take a picture of it and send it to your teacher by Wednesday. Remember to name it: Creations_____Your Name. Some examples may include: a piece of art, a craft, a lego creation, a sidewalk chalk design or message, a meal you’ve cooked, a garden you’re working on etc….
If you have been part of a UNIQUE EXPERIENCE, we also want to hear about it! For example: Have you put a positive message out into the community? Have you supported a community member working the front line? Send us a few sentences describing your experience. Name it Experiences_____Your Name.
We will be randomly choosing some of your submissions to share on Friday.
