Literacy
Home Reading
Last week you were to share your home reading selection with your teachers. As we continue to move forward with our learning at home, we will be including your home reading into some of the literacy assignments.
Task #1 - Your first assignment involving home reading is to print off the following reading log. You can find it
HERE. As seen in the picture below, you have two options in your daily responses; a brief summary or a reflection. We would like to see you try each of these at some point throughout the week. Varying your responses will also help deepen your understanding of the text.
Summaries Include:
- Main idea of the text
- Details that are important to the main idea
- Characters, setting, problem/conflict
Reflections Can Include:
- Connections (Text to self, text to text, text to world)
- Questions
- Inferences/Predictions
- Character reflections
- Questions for the author
- Thoughts on a theme
Each night, read for a minimum of 20 minutes. It's best to do your
brief summary or reflection just after so that it is fresh in your mind. You do not need to write more than the lines that are provided but you
must fill them with the proper criteria. Have your parent sign and confirm that you are reading. Then share your reading log to your teacher on the google drive every
Monday morning.
Keep your weekly reading logs in a safe place. Consider using a duotang or staple them together each week.
You will need all entries for a final assignment.
Each week, name it
Home Reading _ Your Name and submit to your teacher
every Monday morning.
Literacy Continued:
We are going to be spending the next couple of weeks focusing on learning and reflecting about our Frontline Workers.
Many of you may have family members that are currently working in order to help support all of us staying at home. Today we are going to focus our learning on the people who are working in the medical field.
Nurses, in particular, are continuing to travel from home to home, are continuing to work in care homes, or are working directly in the hospitals continuing to care for those who are sick; both with Covid -19 or with other medical issues.
Task #1 - Watch this short video
HERE to hear from a Canadian nurse on the frontlines during Covid-19's early stages.
Task #2 - Look at the image
HERE. Answer all of the questions that are included below the image in full detail. Use examples/connections from the video or your own experience to help support your responses.
Share to your teacher on your google drive and name it
Nurses_Your Name.
Numeracy- Probability Continued
Today's lesson will require you to either print off the papers or make a chart at home. Be sure to read slowly and follow the directions carefully. Complete the chart and answer all additional questions by clearly number them. Many of you have not been answering all of the questions which makes your work incomplete.
When finished, share to your teacher on the google drive and name it
Probability Chart _ Your Name.

DPA - Why is DPA important? Why do we keep assigning it as a daily task? Take a look at this poster for all of the reasons why...
For all of these reasons above, get some exercise today! If possible, get outside for some fresh air. Go for a bike ride or a walk while maintaining social distancing. Remember that DPA should be 60 minutes and can be split up into smaller portions of time. If you can't get outside, do DPA inside instead. Try a new DPA link that you haven't tried before.
